HOW TO USE THE KIT
STEP 1 — HARVEST THE WORD
Choose a word your child naturally misspelled during writing.
Using real writing mistakes helps the brain connect learning to meaningful language experiences.
STEP 2 — CREATE A WORD MEMORY CARD
Have your child write the word LARGE on an index card.
Then:
- identify the incorrect or omitted part,
- emphasize it with color,
- and draw a picture directly onto or around the difficult part of the word.
The picture becomes a visual mnemonic to strengthen long-term memory storage.
STEP 3 — LOOK • VISUALIZE • SPELL
Place the card slightly to the LEFT side of your child, higher than their eye level.
Keeping the head still, have your child move ONLY their eyes upward and to the left while looking at the word-picture card. This is an evidence-based visual memory technique called Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP)
Then ask your child to:
✔ spell the word aloud forwards
✔ spell the word backwards
✔ “take a picture with your brain”
STEP 4 — RECALL THE WORD
Remove the card from view.
Then ask your child to:
✔ spell the word aloud forwards
✔ spell the word backwards
✔ visualize the picture-word in their mind
STEP 5 — WRITE THE WORD
Have your child write the word correctly on paper.
Keep practice:
✔ calm
✔ short
✔ successful
✔ encouraging
Short, positive practice sessions are often more effective than long drilling sessions.
STEP 6 — BUILD YOUR WORD MEMORY STACK
Save completed cards in the included index card pack.
Over time, your child builds a personalized orthographic mapping memory system that can be reviewed whenever needed.
